Way back in 2004 or there about, a Mumuye patriotic movement arose. It was called Mumuye Cultural Association. That  time, the group organized a cultural event to show the beauty and variety of the Mumuye race. I had a camera then, and with a sense of recording history I clicked on.  I'll be releasing the pictures as a gift following my 59th birthday which I promised the Mumuye youth Alliance Facebook group. YAKUBU - AN EARLY MUMUYE CHRISTIAN

BIOGRAPHY OF "BABA" YAKUBU VORO TOLENYASHONG KWAJJI AD 1915 - 2010 Yakubu Tolenyashong was born about 1915 though other sources would put it several years before that. This projection was made possible using the periodic Mumuye ritual of initiation to manhood done every seven years. Since he would have been about age 18 – 24 when he was initiated and that 13 generations of initiation rites periods have passed from his time to date. However, missionaries put his date of birth as 1902 when he was baptized in 1954. His parents named him Masho Talenyashong, and Yakubu (Jacob) was the name he acquired at his baptism as a Christian. His father Voro Loto belonged to the Bolong clan while his mother Wafiri came from the Punya Tarimijare clan both of the Kwajji clan of the Mumuye tribe. I was commissioned to produce a history of the church in Kwajji as a basis for the compilation of a general documentary for the district and ultimately the entire United Methodist Church Nigeria –UMCN – Southern conference of Nigeria. The following notes are compiled therefore as a record of what transpired within a period about 100 years since the arrival of Christianity into Mumuye land and particularly Kwajji area spreading the gospel of our lord Jesus Christ in this part of Nigeria.
